House Painters in Crawfordville & Wakulla County

Crawfordville is about 26 miles south of our shop on Lake Hall Rd. Call it 40 minutes, most of it straight down Crawfordville Highway. It is the county seat of Wakulla County and part of the Tallahassee metro area, and a lot of the people who live there drive into town for work. We are a Tallahassee company and we say so plainly. But Wakulla is close enough that people ask, so here is what to expect if you call us from down there.

What the drive means for your job

Forty minutes each way is real, and it changes two things. The estimate still happens in person. Marshall or Gerard drives out and walks the house with you, because guessing a job off a phone photo is how a painter ends up wrong on price and prep. That visit is free. Then a crew of two or three comes down and works the day. We are usually booked out, so we will tell you honestly when we can start.

Painting a house this close to the Gulf

Wakulla County is coastal. Close to a sixth of it is water, between the rivers, the springs, and the bay. Wakulla Springs is a few minutes from town. The Apalachicola National Forest covers the west side of the county, and the St. Marks refuge sits along the coast. Pines and water on every side means heavy air most of the year, saltier the farther south you go.

That does things to a house. Mildew and green algae build up on the shaded side of the siding. Sun-facing walls chalk. Trim, fascia, and window sills go soft where water sits and stays damp. So before we talk color on an exterior house painting job, we talk about the wash and the wood. We pressure wash first. We look for soft spots and handle minor wood rot and carpentry repair before any primer goes on. We do not paint over rot, and we do not paint wet wood.

Timing matters out here. Hurricane season is June 1 to November 30. June, July, and August are the wet months, seven inches of rain and ten or eleven wet days apiece, and paint cures slow in that kind of humidity. October and November are the driest weeks the area gets, with April and May next best. If you want the outside of the house done in the fall, call in late summer. Those slots fill.

Inside work, any month

The coast does not matter inside, and neither does the month. Walls, ceilings, trim, doors, kitchen cabinets. Two or three painters, clean canvas drop cloths on the floors, plastic over the beds and furniture, and sliders under anything heavy so we can move it ourselves.
