Cabinet Painting & Refinishing in Tallahassee

Kitchen cabinets take more abuse than any other wood in the house. Steam, grease, and years of hands pull the finish right off the doors. Under that tired finish, the boxes are usually fine. Paint fixes the finish and you keep the cabinets. We've been painting homes in Tallahassee since 1998, and cabinets are part of what our interior crews handle.

What we paint

Kitchen cabinets. That is the usual call. Bathroom vanities, built-ins, and laundry-room cabinets come up too, and we'll talk through those when we look at the job.

We do not build cabinets, and we do not replace them. We paint what you have. If a door is cracked or a box is falling apart, we'll tell you so on the walk-through instead of painting over it.

How a cabinet job goes

The doors come off and get painted away from your house. We can say that much plainly, because a customer said it about her own kitchen. The face you look at every day gets done off-site, not on a hinge.

What happens to the frames and boxes, how many coats go on, and how many days you're without doors all get covered when Marshall or Gerard walks the job with you. We keep that for the walk-through, in your kitchen, with the cabinets in front of us.

Prep is the same as any interior job we do. Canvas drop cloths on the floor. Plastic over anything that stays in the room. If the table needs to move, we do the heavy moving. We have sliders for that. You can be home or away. If you'd rather not sit in the house while we work, we can arrange a way to get in.

Picking the color

Cabinet color is a bigger decision than wall color. Walls get repainted. Cabinets you live with for a long time.

We are, as Gerard puts it, "putter oners not picker outers." We'll give you an honest opinion. We won't pick your color for you. Who shows up

A crew of two or three. Colleen has been with Superior 25 years. She's a fantastic painter, and she works great with the customers. Her name shows up in a lot of our reviews, and she is one of the people who might be standing in your kitchen.

We're insured, general liability and workers' compensation, and we can send a certificate of insurance if you want one before the crew shows up.

"Colleen and her crew came out the first day to prep. They moved furniture and covered everything. Cabinet doors in kitchen were removed and painted offsite. Everyone was great. Showed up timely, worked all day and cleaned up. Colleen even helped me with colors. Job took about 6 days. I'll be having them back out for phase two."

What cabinet painting costs

We don't post prices, because two kitchens with the same number of doors can be different jobs altogether. What moves the number:

• How many doors and drawer fronts there are
• The shape the current finish is in, and how much sanding and repair it needs
• How far the color is moving. Dark stain to a light color takes more work than a refresh in a similar shade
• Whether we're painting walls and trim at the same time

Can you paint the walls while you're at it?

How long will my kitchen be torn up?

Depends on the number of doors and the finish. We'll give you a straight answer when we look at it, and we'll tell you before day one if the schedule shifts. We're usually booked out, so we'll also tell you when we can start.
